Report on the aid transport August 2022

Aid transport from 23 -27. August 2022

Dear friends and supporters of our work for the people in Ukraine, here is my report on our 7th aid transport to Vinnytsia:

On 23.8.2022, we sent a truck with 13 tonnes of Crunch muesli from the Schlüter farm on its journey to Vinnytsia/Central Ukraine, which reached its destination safely on 27.8.22 and was unloaded.

From an overproduction of the DeVauGe in Lüneburg we were able to buy 13 tons (= 32.500 pck. a 400g = selling price approx. 4 Euro ) at a price of € 0,50.-/pck. through the mediation of Walter Beck/Stiftung Hof Schlüter and thus were able to bring 32.500 pck. on the journey. Including the transport costs of € 2000.- we are thus again very well off with a benefit-ratio (cost/benefit ratio) of 6.15. DeVauGe also sponsored packaging produced especially for Ukraine, which caused great emotion among the recipients in Ukraine.

As we have meanwhile established a good and trusting cooperation with our partners in Ukraine, this transport has been carried out for the first time apart from the plan without my personal accompaniment, whereby we are involved in the decisions on distribution. The food will be used exclusively to feed the refugees.

We would like to thank Andre Novotny from the Hof Schlüter Foundation once again for taking care of the customs papers and getting the truck from Ukraine.

Our thanks also go once again to the Bleckeder Action Alliance Ukraine Emergency Aid, which helped finance this transport with a higher donation.

Current situation in Vinnytsia and Bar/Central Ukraine:

The shock of the rocket attack on the centre of Vinnytsia on 14 July is still deep. 22 people, including 4 children, were killed and 70 people were injured, some of them seriously. The impact of 3 medium-range rockets (3 rockets could be intercepted) took place at midday about 300 m from Pyrogova hospital on the particularly busy Pyrogova Street, where many mothers are out with their children, especially at this time of day. Particularly cruel especially against the background that there are no military targets in Vinnytsia and the attack therefore targeted the civilian population.

Furthermore, 170,000 refugees are permanently staying in the Vinnytsia region, waiting for the end of the war and the possibility to return home. As the men are deployed at the front, mainly refugee women and children (over 50%) are staying in the region and need to be provided with all the necessities of life.

At the request of the Winnyzja district office, we have for the first time also included the small town of Bar (40,000 inhabitants, approx. 70 km from Winnyzja)in our support programme. There are about 5000 refugees here, a small hospital (180 beds, provides regular care for about 80,000 inhabitants of the Bar district). In Bar there is also a primary school and a secondary school as well as a technical school for car mechanics/mechatronics and a centre for agriculture.

Planning next relief transport at the beginning of October 2022:

Preparations are underway for the 8th aid transport:

  • Campaign “Food packages” of Bleckede and Lüneburg schools.
  • Durable food from “Handelshof Lüneburg” (Funding not yet secured)
  • Medicines and equipment for hospital in cash according to the list of requirements
  • Warm winter clothes and children’s clothing for refugees in Bar for the winter

Support for the Vinnytsia region through our aid shipments continues at a high level, thanks to your help. So far, with a donation of € 150,000, 115 tons of relief goods with a total value of about € 850,000 have been transported to the crisis area in 7 transports with 8 trucks and distributed to the recipients according to their needs.

Mediation of partnerships:

At the request of the Vinnytsia District Office, we have carried out the mediation of the following partnerships:

  • Partnership Elementar-Schule Bar with Elbtal-Grundschule Bleckede
  • Partnership Gymnasium Bar mir Gymnasium Bleckede, Gymnasium Wilhelm-Raabe-Schule Lüneburg is requested
