Preparations for the next aid transport in April 2022

The Preparations for the next major transport of relief supplies to refugee centres and the central hospital in Winnyzja in Central Ukraine have started in Lüneburg. The transport is set on the 12th of April 2022 from Lüneburg, Hof Schlüter, and is estimated to reach the destination before Easter.

The load is coordinated with the receiving stations in Winnyzja. Because of the hospitals proximity to regions of conflict medical units are supplied with medication, anaesthetics and bandages to help the injured. Therefore, in coordination with the regional doctors, an emphasis has been put on first and second traumatic aid. To take care of bullet wounds and other major injuries (victims of mines), the supplies include a special range of wound management (e.g. vacuum wound management). Further, the medical supplies have been chosen correspondingly with departments of the Lüneburg hospital (Prof. Sonntag, children’s clinic, Dr Cramer, accident surgery, Prof. Frenkl, anaesthesia). The estimation of applicability of measures has been updated during the last transport to ensure a prioritization of urgent situations. To that end we expect to receive a list of requirements by the hospital in Winnyzja.

The centre of volunteer helpers for refugee care in Winnyzja has taken care of up to 15.000 refugees in the past and more refugees are expected to arrive from the south of the Ukraine.

Long-life foods are what is needed the most there to supply the refugees.

In addition to all schools in Bleckede, two schools in Boizenburg have started campaigns to collect foodf or Ukrainian refugees. Students and their families donated food supplies for families to last several days. From this great campaign, around 500 food packages make their way to the Ukraine. We make sure to report back to the students about the success of the campaign. A big thanks to the students and their families.

The “Handelshof Lüneburg” also offered further support. Johannes Schwindt and Ralf Brunke provide long-life foods at a low price for the donation funds to be used effectively.

A special thanks to Mr Andre Novotny and Mr Walter Beck of Hof Schlüter that once again organized the transport.

The transport will once again be accompanied by Dr Ralf-Peter Oelsner to ensure a correct delivery of the aid materials and to estimate further demand from the refugee centre and hospital.
